US researchers break through the Ebola virus

Release date: 2010-06-08

Breakthroughs have been made in the use of particulate genetic material to interfere with the reproduction of Ebola virus. Laboratory studies have shown that Rhesus macaques infected with Ebola have reduced mortality after receiving a pilot drug treatment.
According to Agence France-Presse, the team led by Thomas Gassbert, a specialist in the National Potential Infectious Diseases Laboratory at Boston University School of Medicine, selected two groups of Rhesus macaques to apply this experimental drug. According to reports, the small interfering ribonucleic acid contained in this drug can destroy the mechanism of action of the enzyme required for Ebola virus reproduction, thereby achieving the purpose of interfering with virus reproduction.
The researchers first injected a lethal dose of Ebola virus subtype Ebola-Zaire into the first group of three macaques, and then injected four doses of the experimental drug into the macaque for several days. The macaque died.
After the same dose of this virus subtype was injected into the fourth group of 4 macaques, they received 7 doses of experimental drug treatment and all survived.
One of the two groups of experimental monkeys did not receive experimental drug treatment after the disease and eventually died.
Gassberg said that this is the first time researchers have developed a drug that can kill non-human primates after Ebola virus infection, which is of breakthrough significance. Based on this study, it is expected that this experimental drug will be developed into a bulk formulation for the treatment of Ebola cases.
Ebola virus can be transmitted through human blood and secretions, which can cause Ebola virus hemorrhagic fever. Patients may have symptoms such as fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, body aches, body and blood, and the mortality rate is about 50% to 90%. %.
According to data released by the World Health Organization, since the first case of Ebola virus infection was discovered in 1976, approximately 1,850 such cases have been reported worldwide, of which about 1,200 have died.
The research results are published in the latest issue of the medical journal The Lancet. Meditech Medical Network

In the United States and Canada, an Electric Blanket is a blanket with an integrated electrical heating device usually placed above the top bed sheet. In the United Kingdom and Commonwealth, electric blanket commonly refers to an electric underblanket (electric mattress pad), which is placed below the bottom bed sheet. Electric blankets usually have a control unit which adjusts the amount of heat the blanket produces. Blankets for larger sized beds often have separate controls for each side of the bed. The electric blanket may be used to pre-heat the bed before use or to keep the occupant warm while in bed.

Some modern "low voltage" electric blankets (such as Car Blanket) have thin carbon fiber wires and work on 12 to 24 volts. These blankets are more comfortable and even safer than ordinary 110/240 volt blankets.
