Shenzhen imports Brazilian sugarcane raw sugar for the first time

On October 13, a batch of sugarcane raw sugar from Brazil arrived in Shenzhen Chiwan Port. This is the first time that the Shenzhen Port has imported sugarcane raw sugar from Brazil. The batch of raw sugar was national reserve raw sugar, with a total weight of 50,000 tons and a value of US$30.76 million. In order to ensure the high quality of national reserves of raw sugar, Shekou Inspection and Quarantine Bureau launched a "green channel", the implementation of pre-acceptance inspection and declaration and issued a customs clearance, to ensure that the goods can be quickly declared. After the arrival of the goods, the bureau quickly dispatched personnel to carry out sampling inspections, and the batch of raw sugar can be used only after the test results are qualified.

Latin America and Brazil are the major importers of sugar in China. The sugarcane raw sugar at Shenzhen Port has been imported from Cuba for the past several years. This is the first time that the port has imported sugar cane raw sugar from Brazil, the world’s largest sugar producer. In recent years, the domestic sugar planting area has decreased, and sugar production has decreased. The increase in the domestic sugar consumption level, the increase in the domestic sugar supply gap has led to a continuous rise in sugar prices, through the import of raw sugar can effectively make up for market gaps, the domestic sugar market regulation and cover the national reserves of sugar inventory.
