Imports of fish and seafood are not substitutes for Russian fishery products.
The phenomenon of importing alternatives to Russian aquatic products will not continue after Russia’s accession to the WTO. This view was recently expressed by the Chairman of the Russian Fisheries Agency, Andrew Kraniy.
According to an official statistics on aquatic products, from January to November 2011, Russian aquatic products exports increased by 6.9% compared with the same period of last year, while imports fell by 10%.
AndrewKrainiy also said: "Russia's production of aquatic products in the domestic market will continue to grow, and there is huge room for export. It is expected that the export of high value-added aquatic products will increase, not just raw materials for aquatic products."
