South Korea's foot-and-mouth disease raging, import beef sales soared

According to the Korean North Korea Daily reported on February 7, last year, the US beef sales in the Korean market increased significantly year-on-year. The U.S. Meat Export Association announced on the 6th that the import of U.S. beef from South Korea last year was 84,282 tons, an increase of 42.6% over 2009. Due to the influence of the foot-and-mouth disease in South Korea, not only American beef but also beef imports from other countries have increased. The increase in imports of all beef has reached 16.2%. Of all imported beef, the proportion of US beef rose from 26.5% in 2009 to 32.5% last year. In addition, the amount of pork imported into the United States last year was 75.362 million tons, accounting for 26.1% of the total pork imports, ranking first.
