Cattle keep winter safely

From the beginning of winter to the equinox of the following year, these five months are the wintering period for cattle. As winter temperatures drop, the demand for nutrients such as calories in feed increases. In order to guarantee spring plowing in the coming year, the overwintering management of the cattle must be emphasized.

Store enough winter forage. Straw is the main feedstuff for winter cattle in farming areas. Early straw is better, palatability is better, nutrient content is higher than late straw, and pesticide residues are less. Generally, each adult cow should prepare about 1,700 kilograms of overwintering forage and 2,500 kilograms for adult buffalo. If possible, it is best to prepare some silage.

Pay attention to keeping warm and cold. Before the winter, check the barracks so that there is no leakage, no air is allowed on the sides, and the floor is not damp. Winter rain and snow days, grazing long feeding time, excrement and more, it is necessary to change mat grass, keep the bar house dry, improve the bar insulation properties.

Increase nutrition supply. In winter, the body temperature of cultivating beef is more than that of cultivating cows. It is not sufficient to eat straw only to meet the normal nutritional needs, and it is necessary to add concentrated feeds such as bran, rice bran, rice flour, and corn flour to supplement nutrition. In particular, feed nutrients for thin, weak, old, pregnant and young cattle should be increased. To provide warm water for cattle or warm water, do not drink cold river water or pond water. Otherwise easy to cause gastrointestinal diseases, such as valve gastric obstruction (also known as blindfold disease). When the temperature is lower than 12 °C, one drink too much cold water, can make the body temperature of cattle down 1 °C ~ 2 °C, consume a large number of cattle body heat, unfavorable to cattle health.

Strengthen disease prevention. In winter, it is a period of frequent occurrence of gastrointestinal diseases and rheumatism in farm cattle, and attention should be paid to prevention and treatment. At the same time, make full use of the sunny weather, bring the cows to the sun outside the house, and exercise properly. It also allows the cattle to engage in light labor, which is conducive to active bones and muscles, promote blood circulation, enhance the body of the cattle and reduce the incidence.
