The longitudinal elongation is the main factor in the early stage, the number of cells in the fruit is increased, and then the horizontal growth of the watermelon is performed through cell expansion. The suitable temperature for flowering and setting of watermelon is 25～30°C. If the temperature is too low, the rate of cell division will be slow and the number of cells in the watermelon will not reach a sufficient quantity. With the increase of temperature, the rapid expansion of the melon will occur later. , And watermelon within the lack of cells, can not fill the space inside the watermelon and hollow.

Once again, it is seated high in melons. Due to the low temperature in the early stage, poor flower bud differentiation, difficulty in sitting in the melon, many melon farmers did not sit on the second female flower, which caused the melon to move backwards. The female flowers were prone to large melons and thick skin, making the melon hollow. The chance of occurrence has greatly increased. Sitting high in the melon section also leads to severe aging of the later leaves, reduced ability to produce organic nutrients, insufficient supply of nutrients, and the tendency for watermelon to appear hollow.

In addition, severe lack of water and fertilizer will also affect the expansion of cells and hollow. In the period of rapid expansion of watermelon, if the supply of water and fertilizers is seriously insufficient, the thin-skin cells of the quail-bite part are most likely to be affected, and part of the cells are injured and die, and hollows appear.

The last is over-harvesting. Before maturity, the nutrients and moisture of the watermelon are continuously transported to the fruit. If the watermelon is not harvested in time, it is prone to collapse phenomenon, that is, the nutrients and moisture in the fruit pods flow back into the seed and the melon vines. The disintegration of the melon pods caused the hollows to appear first in the melon seeds and around the seeds, which is more evident in the fast-growing varieties.
