Occurrence and Prevention of Sow Mastitis

Weaning sow mastitis is a common and frequently occurring disease. In the light, the swelling of the breasts was spontaneously subsided after 10 to 15 days. The severe cases had suppurative ulceration and showed cellulite inflammation. Although good after treatment, it affected the estrus and breeding of sows. Some will also make some nipples lose their lactating function and be eliminated.
In recent years, the cause of the disease has been promoted in early weaning. However, after sow weaning, the sow’s lactating function is still in a relatively prosperous stage. The suckling of the piglet is not obtained, and it stays in the breast and is physiologically deposited, causing the breast to swell. Too much milk compresses the blood vessels of the breast and blood circulation is blocked, resulting in a lack of oxygen and nutrients in the breast tissue. On the other hand, harmful metabolites cannot be drained back and necrosis occurs over time. Excessive swelling of the breasts causes friction with the ground, resulting in trauma and causing bacterial inflammation.
2 Prevention Methods According to many years of clinical experience, the use of vitamin B6 can prevent the occurrence of mastitis in weaned sows. The method is: vitamin B62ml (5mg) 10 tablets, 5 days before weaning, 2 intramuscular injections per day, once every 5 days, can make milk stop secretion (commonly known as back milk). Vitamin tablet B6 (5mg) 10 tablets, fed twice a day. Before and after weaning for N7 days, it can also be returned to milk. Vitamin B6 can promote the formation of dopamine in the brain, and dopamine can promote the generation of brain central transmitters, more activation of dopamine receptors, reversal of pituitary prolactin secretion. This inhibits the secretion of milk. In addition, sows 2 days before weaning and 3 days after weaning are fed less succulent, high-energy feed to reduce feed intake to reduce milk production and prevent the development of mastitis.
